The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
